Magazine Advert Second Draft and Feedback

I have designed a second draft of my magazine advert now and unfortunately I am not happy with the result. I feel that the advert looks too crowded and I think that the colour scheme needs changing. However, I do like the theme of mental health and although the advert is not at the standard that I want it to be yet, I still think that I can create a strong, meaningful advert whilst staying with this theme. My audience suggested the idea of focusing the advert around the artist alone which would allow me to get rid of 'The Joker' character and make the advert look less crowded and more visually appealing so this is the change I am likely to make.

Magazine Advert First Draft

After creating a draft design of my magazine advert, I have decided to think of a different Idea because it doesn't look as effective as I hoped it would look. The reason for this is that I feel the design is too simplistic and although it does have a strong link to the music video, it doesn't present the primary theme of mental health as well as I would of liked it too. Also, I have realised that the target audience will not understand the poster unless they have seen the music video which could mean they get mixed up between the characters on the music video and the actual artist 'Gnarls Barkley' which is problematic.

My new idea involves a poster with the artist on one side and the fictional character 'The Joker' on the other. This implies the message that although people may look fine on the outside, it's impossible to know what's going on in their heads when they're alone and this concept is represented by 'The Joker'. I believe this will convey the mental health theme much more clearly which will appeal to my target audience better.
